Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust: ‘Being Our Best’ Communications

Clear direction from the WAST CEO at the start of the project, defined the solution. She wanted the ‘Being Our Best’ and 5 behaviours to ‘touch’ everyone, seeing them in their everyday work so that they became embedded and people live them. Our strategy was to create a single A4 vision map image using the bright yellow and green of the WAST Ambulances and brand. Created in a modular way so the elements could be used separately and together, we used minimal wording and relateable visuals.

From the start of the project WAST wanted to live the behaviours and included colleague feedback, using a combination of online, offline and face-to-face feedback methods. Working with a development group, the campaign design was co-produced and tested with the workforce at each stage.

OUR PROCESS

1. Fran led an ideas session with the development team
2. From this we created a hand-drawn concept visual, which was shared across the organisation for feedback
3. The vision map and behaviours graphics are finalised
4. Launched with a physical presence of print and products, embedded in the WAST process and with a social media campaign
5. ‘Being Our Best’ is a finalist for the CIPR ‘Best Internal Campaign’ award.

“Scarlet Design have played an integral role in helping us turn our collaboratively developed words into easily recognisable visible pictures. This not only has helped reinforce our Vision, Purpose and Behaviours but has led to increased engagement as colleagues have got involved in owning and living our behaviours. In partnership with Fran and the team, we continue to find ways of helping colleagues to live the behaviours – this includes with the lanyards we introduced last year.”
